Couverture de l’ouvrage Non-destructive Testing of Impact Damage in Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites

Non-Destructive Testing of Impact Damage in Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites: Fundamentals and Applications provides detailed knowledge on the fundamentals and applications of frequently used NDT techniques used to assess impact damage in composite structures. The book starts with a detailed introduction to impact damage in composite structures. Then, based on the nature, capabilities, and limitations of different NDT techniques, the book is divided into six different parts, including vision-based, acoustic-based, radiation-based, laser-based, and electric-based methods, fiber optics are also covered in detail. Each section also includes subsections discussing the different techniques used in each category. The book is complemented at the end with a section dedicated to future trends in non-destructive evaluation of impact damage in composite materials. A useful reference for both academic and industrial researchers, the book covers the fundamentals, practical tips, and applications, as well as current research trends and future possibilities for each technique.

Dr. Mohamed Nasr Saleh is Lead of the High Temperature Thermoplastic Composites Group at the Advanced Materials Research Centre (AMRC) part of the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). With a PhD degree in Composite Materials from the University of Manchester, UK, Dr. Mohamed has more than 10 years of experience in the field of composites and adhesives. Prior to joining TII in 2021, he held various research positions in the Netherlands (Delft University of Technology), and the United Kingdom (AMRC with Boeing-University of Sheffield & National Composites Certification and Evaluation Facility-University of Manchester) during which he was involved in many large-scale collaborative projects with industrial partners in the automotive, maritime, and aerospace sectors. He has over 40 research publications in the field of damage mechanics of composite materials, multi-scale modelling of 3D woven composites and structural health monitoring of composites and adhesively bonded joints, with a continuous focus on industrial applications.
Dr. Milad Saeedifar graduated with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology in Iran (summa cum laude). He later went on to pursue a three-year postdoc at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, at Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands. His research field is mainly focused on non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring of composite structures. He has published over 50 papers in high-prestige ISI journals, including but not limited to Composites Part B, Composites Part A, Composites Science and Technology, Composite Structures, and Structural Health Monitoring. In addition, he has participated as a researcher in three European projects in the field of structural health monitoring of composite and hybrid structures, i.e., QUALIFY, ReMAP, and Ticoajo.
  • Covers a wide range of NDT techniques that are appropriate for impact damage detection in composites
  • Presents relatively new techniques and includes case studies related to new types of composite materials
  • Discusses fundamentals, technical tips, applications, state-of-the art., and future trends
  • Includes a dedicated section on new trends in integrating and analyzing the data of different NDT techniques (NDT data fusion and remaining useful life prediction of impacted composites structures)
