Updated November 2007, CD-ROM Trilingual (En/Fr/Es)" />
Fisheries, including aquaculture, provide a vital source of food, employment, recreation, trade and economic well being for people throughout the world, both for present and future generations and should therefore be conducted in a responsible manner. This Code sets out principles and international standards of behaviour for responsible practices with a view to ensuring the effective conservation, management and development of living aquatic resources, with due respect for the ecosystem and biodiversity. This CD-ROM contains the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and its supporting documents and instruments, including the international plans of action, technical guidelines, documents prepared for the sessions of the FAO Committee on Fisheries and videos relating to the Code. It is planned to update this CD-ROM periodically as more information becomes available.

Version 2 (trinlingual En/Fr/Es) CD-ROM" />
Five training manuals on "Simple Methods for Aquaculture" and the "Handbook on Small-scale Freshwater Fish Farming" are presented on the CD-ROM. These manuals are written in simple language, focusing on the practical aspects of semi-intensive fish culture in freshwaters from site selection and fish farm construction to the raising, final harvesting and marketing of the fish. They present methods and equipment useful not only to those responsible for fields projects and aquaculture extension in developing countries, but also for use in aquaculture training. The first version of this CD-ROM was released in 2003 in English and French. This second release has been revised, improved and includes also all manual in Spanish.

This CD-ROM contains the electronic version of the collection of the FAO Species Catalogue published during the period 1980-99, which appeared as FAO Fisheries Synopsis No. 125, Volumes 1-18. Catalogues are worldwide, annotated and illustrated inventories of species for each of the world's major commercial groups of fishery resources. They are comprehensive reviews of current knowledge on species of aquatic organisms of present and potential economic interest. Species catalogues include general information on the groups and information by species including scientific nomenclature, international and local names, diagnostic features, geographical distribution, biology, fisheries and relevant literature. Navigation between and within volumes is facilitated through the use of bookmarks. [Adobe Reader®] required]

This CD-ROM contains the electronic version of the FAO Species Identification Sheets for Fishery Purposes for the Eastern Central Atlantic (Fishing Areas 34 and part of 47) published in 7 volumes in 1981. The Identification Sheets are aimed at establishing an annotated illustrated inventory of aquatic species of interest to fisheries, they cover the species of the major marine resource groups exploited in the Eastern Central Atlantic. The marine resource groups included are the bony fishes, chimaeras, sharks, batoid fishes, crustacean, molluscs and sea turtles. The sheets provide fishery workers with a tool for the correct identification of the species occurring in their area.
Introduced species, also known as alien or exotic species, are a proven means to increase production and value from aquatic ecosystems. They are also recognized as a significant threat to aquatic biodiversity. Resource managers, the fishery and aquaculture sectors and policy-makers must balance the benefits versus the risks of using introduced species, accurate information is essential. This CD-ROM contains a variety of information, including guidelines, codes of practice, international instruments, publications and considerations that will facilitate responsible use and control of introduces species. A main feature is the Database on Introduction of Aquatic Species (DIAS) that contains over 5 000 records of international introductions of aquatic species.
System requirements (including database installation): Windows®95/98/NT2000/XP, browser Internet Explorer® 4.0+, Netscape® Navigator® 4.0+, or equivalent, RAM: preferably over 128MB, Free disc space: 60MB.
